SOURCES & METHODOLOGY

Clear about the numbers.

Know where information comes from, what an estimate includes, and what still needs verification.

Coverage

The directory contains 27 utility entries and one historical non-operating district record. 22 residential electricity models are sourced from official utility publications. Stevens PUD is correctly listed for water and wastewater, rather than electricity. The original 2025 dataset is preserved separately.

What “checked” means

The initial rate and service-link review was September 7, 2026. Five rate models were checked again September 17; other dates remain unchanged. See the review log and each model’s source date. It does not mean a utility has endorsed the site, a portal has accepted a payment, or an assistance application is currently open. Some sources do not state an exact effective date; we show that gap.

Calculator methods

Energy is usage multiplied by the published rate, or the sum of charges in each usage tier. Daily base charges use your billing days. Monthly base charges and tiers represent one regular billing cycle and are not prorated. Demand charges require the applicable billing demand. Known modeled surcharges, credits, and minimum bills are shown separately.

Models cover standard residential service only. Net metering, special tariffs, split-period rate changes, new connection fees, arrears, late fees, and optional services are outside this calculator. Each result identifies additional exclusions. A displayed subtotal is not a guaranteed final bill.

Fair comparisons

Comparisons use the same kWh and billing days. Different tax treatment and service classes still affect comparability. Missing or expired models produce no estimate. We do not rank incomplete results as cheapest. Service depends on the address; a comparison does not imply that a household can switch providers.

Data maintenance

Review rate sources at least monthly and before each known effective-date change. Models become unavailable after 90 days without review or after their stated validity limit. Published future changes require a new verification before calculator activation. Service links and assistance windows should be rechecked regularly.

Measuring usefulness

Our planned voluntary feedback and task testing will assess whether people reach the correct service, understand estimates, and complete tasks accurately. We have not yet measured time savings. The site does not use a separate analytics service. Google AdSense code is installed; advertising does not influence our rate calculations or service links.
